breaking news, police make more arrests in the beating of a fisherman. who they have in custody this noon. hello again.

we're going to start with the breaking news. police make two more arrests in the vicious beating of an elderly man in a popular park. they're the final two suspects that police are calling a hate crime. we stay on the story and derek valcourt has more information on these new arrests. good afternoon. >> reporter: hello. last night, police tracked down the two teenaged suspects who they say helped commit the hate crime on the 86-year-old man. >> the 28-year-old under arrest now police say they have his two accomplices in custody. jackry watson and they were arrested separately at their homes last night, this he are now facing charges as adults. >> we have our finger on a lot of these violent people that we need to be out there focusing on. >> reporter: early on tuesday morning, the three attacked a

76-year-old at a state park loading his gear into his car. one witness saw the victim. >> he said they came from behind and they had a bat and knocking him on the ground, kicked him. took his keys and sped off in the truck. >> they were able to use a tracking device. the teens got away. court papers reveal calvin lockner said it would not have happened if he was a white man. he has a hitler tattoo that says he is a member of the dangerous hate group the aaron botherhood. they disappointed. >> i'm surprised. this is -- this is a community that we live in. and we don't have problems like that around here. >> reporter: the suspects face a long list of criminal charges, including attempted murder charges. prosecutors say they want to try the suspects in the hate crime laws. we're live at police

headquarters. eyewitness news. >> we are following the story, we will have the latest today at 4, 5 and 6:00. other breaking news where there is a hazmat situation at catholic high school. and we're live over the scene. what do you see? >> we're at edson highway and in northeast. before 11:30 there was an explosion of a chemical that occurred in a storage area of one of the science labs here at the school. personnel responded to the scene. they determined it was a bottle that exploded due to heat. they took that and other chemicals out of the billing. they are on the scene. if there was any type of evacuation, that has abated at this point. and the operations are normal and they are disposing of the chemical. >> live over edson highway. 200 americans died when flight 103 was bombed over scotland, including stprefrl

here in maryland. now the man convicted of the crime has been set free. officials released him because he is dieing from cancer. we report as there is heated reaction to the news. >> reporter: a convoy essupreme courts him out of the prison and on to a plane bound for libya. the only man found guilty of the daft they're killed the americans is a free man. >> our justice system demands that judgment be imposed but compassion be available. >> reporter: the justice minister released the suspect because the libyan is dying from terminal prostate cancer. after being on the run for ten years he served 8 years of a life sentence. 270 people, mostly americans, died in the flight. it exploded over lockerbie, scotland in 1988. many relatives live here in new york state. they are outraged at his

it shut down the stretch from fayette street for several hours during the morning commute. cars were directed around the interstate causing backups downtown and along the side streets. >> dozens of people are forced out following a fire in baltimore county. we have the latest on this. >> good afternoon and everybody. the red cross is now assisting 30 people displaced by the fire. it broke out around 1020. and the fire department took them an hour to bring it under control but four apartment units were damaged. they say that a candle caused the fire. >> the candle was started, hit the mattress that was the end of that. tried to put it out, didn't work. grab what you have on. get to the car, get out. not much more to think about it. >> other apartments lost power

hurricane. tim? >> as you notice the center of the storm the eye is well formed t weakened from a category 4, the category 3 is a major hurricane. let's look at the current path. as of 1:91 o'clock update. and a category 3 with the sustained winds at 121 miles per hour. gusts moving to the northwest at 18 miles an hour. and it is moving. higher tides. this will be moving past us. it will continue right into the bath. the storms that are moving through that have been playing us will keep bill at pay. that's going to be a good thing as we move saturday into sunday. we're talking about some of those storms and for a bit more that's playing in the forecast we send it out to marty. >> thank you very much.

and it is a cold front moving through. friday into saturday it will throw a block up. we have the unstable air mass and showers and storms almost daily breaking out because of the instability. and the front approaches we'll see widespread outbreak of storms. we widen out you can see the atmosphere juicing up a bit. they are starting to flex. that remains to be seen. we'll be watching it through the afternoon. and on the house at 4, 5, 6. they will hear thunder. and details coming up shortly. now back inside. >> thank you. universities are basking in the blow of attention.

officials now say 26 afghan officials and forces were killed in attacks during the presidential elections there. millions of people voted, many stayed home fearful of attacks op polling places. the scious watching the election closely. whoever wins will have a major motion in the american mission in afghanistan. results are not expected until saturday. two men have been arrested in connection with the biggest jewelry heist in british history. investigators launched a search for the two well dressed men after they walked into a jewelry store armed with handguns. they made off with dozens of items worth 66 million. they are looking for two remaining suspects. it is unclear whether they recovered the stolen jewels or
